Russia to build 5 other nuclear plants for Iran: Kamalvandi

Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has said that negotiations and agreements were done with the Russian delegation regarding the construction of five nuclear power plants larger than Bushehr.

Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman for the AEOI made the remarks on the sidelines of the  Russia’s World Atom Week (WAW)'s Atom Expo 2025 exhibition in Moscow, where an Iranian delegation headed by the AEOI head Mohamad Eslami were attending.

"This trip was multi-purpose; Not only did it include attending this important international summit, as well as Eslami's speech to elaborate on the country's policies. It also included pursuing relations with Russia in various fields of nuclear cooperation," said the nuclear spokesman.

He hailed the Russians' cooperation with Iran in building the Bushehr Power Plant in the south of the country, saying that the plant fully meets international standards.

Kamalvandi said that during the talks that the Iranian nuclear delegation held in Russia, "negotiations and agreements were made, especially in the area of ​​building power plants larger than Bushehr with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts, which includes a total of four units with a capacity of nearly 5,000 megawatts in the south of the country."

According to Russian officials, World Atom Week 2025 marks the largest international gathering in the nuclear sector, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Russia’s nuclear industry. President Putin addressed the event. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi also attended it and held a meeting with the Russian president.

Iran has also set up a pavilion in the exhibition, which is open to visitors from September 25 to 28, offering a unique opportunity to view the latest nuclear industry achievements from Iran and other countries.
