Araghchi met with Barrot on Thursday, as part of his ongoing diplomatic consultations on the sidelines of the annual UN General Assembly session in New York.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the Iranian nuclear issue and diplomatic initiatives to prevent the unjustified reinstatement of the terminated UN Security Council resolutions against Tehran.

A day earlier, President Masoud Pezeshkian held talks with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron after delivering his speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly summit.

The 80th session of the UNGA opened on September 9. The general debate, which gets underway on September 23, will see world leaders taking to the podium to elaborate on their priorities to a global audience. This year’s General Assembly takes place under the theme “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights,” according to the website of the United Nations.
