Mohajerani made the remarks during her weekly press briefing in Tehran on Tuesday, the same day President Pezeshkian departed for New York.
According to the spokesperson, the Iranian president is scheduled to address world leaders at the UNGA on Wednesday morning (EDT).
She said the president will use every available capacity to defend the rights of the Iranian people and to prevent further pressure against them.
“The president and the administration regard every opportunity to address the country’s challenges as valuable, and the presence at the United Nations is no exception,” Mohajerani noted.
The UNGA is an important platform and a valuable chance “to convey the voice, resilience, and wisdom of the Iranian people,” she further said, stressing that the president will make the most of this opportunity.
The president will also hold talks with other heads of state on the sidelines of the UNGA in a bid to prevent additional pressure on the Iranian nation, she added.
“While we are prepared to counter the pressure resulted from the activation of the snapback mechanism, what truly matters is that we will use diplomacy and the presence of countries at this assembly to highlight the legitimacy, sophistication, and civilization of the Iranian people,” according to Mahejarani.
The mechanism, which was triggered by Britain, France, and Germany last month, would restore UN Security Council sanctions against Iran that had been lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal.
The spokesperson described their move unlawful, said that Iran is stepping up diplomatic efforts to prevent the activation of the mechanism. Mohajerani however emphasized that the Pezeshkian administration stands ready in case that the sanctions are restored.
She also said that the Supreme National Security Council is in charge of making a decision on whether Iran remains in the NPT or withdraws from it, if the snapback mechanism is activated.
Missile program will continue
The spokesperson also said that Iran will not abandon its missile program, because it attaches importance to the security of its people.
“We neither seek anyone’s permission for our missile capabilities nor will we reduce them, because we will not compromise the security of our people for anything,” she said.
