Economic plans are in place to counter potential ‘snapback’ of sanctions: VP

First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref says Iran does not seek war or sanctions, emphasizing that Tehran has developed contingency economic plans to address the potential reimposition of UN sanctions through the "snapback mechanism."

During a session of the Economic Council on Monday, Aref discussed the attempts by three European countries to reinstate UN Security Council sanctions against Tehran, adding, “Our nation and our administrations have performed well in the face of the West’s unjust sanctions. While we do not wish to see the return of sanctions, we hope that the European countries will act rationally and learn from their past experiences in dealing with our country and our people.”

He emphasized, “The Islamic Republic, along with the administration and the people, is fully prepared to counter the plan by the three European countries to reinstate the UN Security Council sanctions.”

Aref added, “The 14th administration has developed programs for special circumstances since the beginning of its tenure. While we believe that the country should be governed under normal conditions, we not only have plans for these normal situations, but we also have programs in place for special circumstances, particularly in the economic field.”

The vice president said that the administration has created governance structures for “special conditions,” noting that similar mechanisms were successfully implemented during the recent 12-day imposed war in June.

Aref further noted, “We are ready to confront any oppressive behavior against our people and our country. We are not warmongering, but any move from the enemy will receive our firm and decisive response.”

The three European parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action—France, Germany, and the UK—have taken steps to trigger the so-called snapback mechanism under the 2015 nuclear deal, accusing Iran of non-compliance with the accord.

Tehran has strongly condemned the European push, describing it as a violation of commitments under the JCPOA and an irresponsible act that undermines diplomacy. Iranian officials have emphasized that Tehran will not remain passive in response to such measures, vowing to adopt serious and proportionate responses while underscoring the country’s readiness to protect its national interests.
