Ex Pakistani Defense Minister: Supporters of anti-Iran sanctions will regret their actions

Pakistan’s former Defense Minister has criticized the complicity of Europe and the US in preventing the adoption of the draft resolution on lifting sanctions against Iran permanently and said those supporting sanctions against Iran will regret their actions.

Speaking to IRNA on Saturday, Lt. General Khalid Naeem Lodhi said unfortunately, the anti-Iran actions of the United States and its allies in the UN Security Council have no justification and reflect their biased approach towards the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Israel is America’s accomplice in bringing the snapback issue to the UNSC, and given the Israeli lobby in the United States and its bullying approach, nothing else could be expected but currying favor with Israel and imposing sanctions on Iran.

He stressed that those voting against the termination of sanctions on Iran are always under pressure from the United States.

Contrary to the expectations of Iran’s enemies, sanctions have enhanced the domestic power and capabilities of the Iranian people and system, he reiterated.

He advised the E3 (Germany, Britain and France) to maintain their dignity and independence from the US.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Lodhi undermined the West’s biased approach in the UN Security Council.

In contrast, Iran has successfully asserted its stance against the Israeli regime and proven that it has achieved self-sufficiency in all fields and does not need any dependence on the West, he stressed.

The United Nations Security Council has not adopted the draft resolution by South Korea, as the rotating president of the UNSC, on lifting sanctions against Iran permanently.

The draft resolution by South Korea, as the president of the UN Security Council for September, was voted on Friday morning local time (New York) in accordance with Clause 11 of Resolution 2231 (2015).

This resolution received four votes in favor out of the 15 votes of the UN Security Council members, with 9 countries voting against and 2 countries abstaining.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has condemned as “unlawful, unjustified and provocative” the European attempt to restore UN sanctions under the so-called snapback mechanism.

Nine members opposed the measure, while Russia, China, Pakistan, and Algeria backed it, and two abstained. As a result, the UN sanctions against Iran will be re-imposed by September 28 if no agreement is reached.

The reaction came after the UN Security Council on Friday voted against a draft resolution that would have permanently lifted sanctions linked to Iran’s nuclear program.
