Global Migrant Statistics: Iran Leads the Region

NOURNEWS – In 2024, the United States, with over 52 million migrants, remains the world’s largest destination. Iran, Turkey, and other countries play significant roles in hosting migrants.

According to the latest United Nations data for 2024, the global international migrant population has reached approximately 304 million. These figures indicate that international migration is not only a demographic phenomenon but also a global social and economic challenge.

The United States tops the list of host countries, accommodating 52,375,047 migrants and allocating a substantial share of its population to them. Following the U.S., Germany hosts 16,750,084 migrants, and Saudi Arabia 13,683,841, ranking second and third respectively. France, with 11,985,723, and the United Kingdom, with 11,845,479 migrants, follow closely, while Egypt, with nearly 10 million, and Spain, with 8,870,527 migrants, are also major hosts.

Other developed countries, such as Canada with 8,805,839 migrants and the United Arab Emirates with 8,157,000, also play important roles in receiving migrants. Russia (7,605,774), Australia (7,111,404), and Turkey (7,083,501) are additional key destinations.

Among regional countries, Iran holds a notable position, hosting 3,840,654 migrants, mostly from Afghanistan. This underscores the critical role neighboring countries play in managing migrant populations and providing humanitarian support. Other regional hosts include Pakistan (4,175,958), Malaysia (3,806,514), and Jordan (3,480,168). Even countries such as Japan (3,409,529) and Italy (6,553,671) allocate a significant portion of their populations to migrants.

These statistics highlight that international migration is a global and multidimensional phenomenon. Depending on their geographic, economic, and political positions, countries play varied roles in hosting and supporting migrants. By accommodating millions of migrants, Iran and other neighboring countries remain central to the global network of humanitarian and demographic support.
