Japan is imposing sanctions on Russian oil, following in the footsteps of the United States

In conjunction with a similar US move, the Japanese government announced that it would ban the import of oil and petroleum products from Russia in response to the Ukraine crisis.
NOURNEWS - The Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan Hirokazu Matsuno said at a press conference on Wednesday that the Tokyo government is working with the international community and its G7 partners to impose sanctions on imports of oil and petroleum products from Russia in line with recent changes in Ukraine. According to Tacc Russian news agency Matsuno said in response to a question about Japan's position on the Ukraine crisis “We want to discuss and study measures that will be effective in cooperation with the international community, especially our close friends in Group Seven”. Last week, US President Joe Biden signed an executive order banning oil, gas and energy imports from Russia. Earlier, Britain announced that it would ban the purchase of oil and gas from Russia. However, most European countries that depend on Russian oil and gas have stated that they will not follow the US's lead in this regard. The Japanese government also announced on Tuesday that it will impose sanctions on exports of oil refining equipment to Russia.
