NOURNEWS-According to vessel-tracking data Iranian tanker, named Fortune which is flying the Iranian flag, has entered the waters of Venezuela's exclusive economic zone.

The tanker, named Fortune, reached the country’s waters at around 7:40 p.m. local time (1140 GMT) after passing north of the neighboring dual-island Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago, according to vessel-tracking data from Refinitiv Eikon, Reuters reported.

“The ships from the fraternal Islamic Republic of Iran are now in our exclusive economic zone,” tweeted Tareck El Aissami, Venezuela’s economy vice president and recently named oil minister.

With the arrival of Iran's first tanker in Venezuela's exclusive economic waters, the morale of the country's youth has risen to withstand US pressure, with the hashtag #GraciasIran (Thanksgiving to Iran) being the first trend on Venezuela's Twitter.

The hashtag # 23May has also become the second trend.

Venezuelan state television showed images of a navy ship and aircraft preparing to meet it. The defense minister had pledged that the military would escort the tankers once they reached Venezuela’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) due to what authorities described as threats from the United States.

About a week ago, a US official announced that the country would take action to send oil shipments to Venezuela from Iran.

Iran has also officially stated that said that any US harassment of its tankers will be met with a decisive response.

Reports indicate that US warships and military aircraft were pursuing Iranian oil tankers in the Caribbean region, but did not interfere with their movement to Venezuela.
