NOURNEWS - On Monday, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia signed the law on the withdrawal of Russia from the "Conventional Armed Forces of Europe" treaty.
Earlier, the Foreign Relations Committee of the Council of the Russian Federation, in a meeting with "Sergei Ryabkov Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia of Russia, supported a bill regarding withdrawal from this treaty.
Although, Putin suspended Russia's membership in this treaty in year 2007.
The European Conventional Armed Forces Treaty was signed in Paris in 1990 with the presence of representatives of 16 member countries of NATO and 6 member countries of Warsaw Pact.
This treaty imposed restrictions on the types of conventional military equipment deployed in Europe and provided the conditions for the destruction of surplus weapons.
In 1999, during the meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the updated version of this treaty was signed considering the cancellation of the Warsaw Pact and the expansion of NATO, while only Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine approved this treaty.
