Human Rights Council meeting, a fragile agreement against Iran

Except for a few prominent European countries, others who voted against Iran in the Human Rights Council are generally countries whose mission in the UN structure is to increase the number of legal votes in this type of meetings, while their actual population is very small.

NOURNEWS - The United Nations Human Rights Council approved a fragile resolution against the human rights situation in Iran with 25 votes in favor against 21 against and abstentions (16 abstentions and 5 against).

The approval of this resolution means that this council agrees with the formation of a "fact-finding committee" regarding the allegations regarding "violation of human rights by the Iranian government" in the recent unrest.

Argentina, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, and the United States voted in favor of this resolution, while China, Venezuela, Armenia, Cuba, Eritrea, and Pakistan voted against it. Bolivia, Brazil, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malawi, Malaysia, Mauritania, Namibia, Qatar, Senegal, Sudan, United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan also abstained.

The results of this meeting can be seen as an unexpected failure considering what the drafters of the resolution intended.

Previously, the United States sought to revive unilateralism by claiming to build consensus in international forums, but a look at the opinions of those present at the meeting; That is, the ratio of 21 abstentions and against 25 votes in favor of the resolution shows a clear truth that indicates the further decline of America's role in global equations.

Leaving this aside, the nature of the words of many present at the said meeting is a document of the political, unprincipled and of course far from the reality of the founders of the resolution and this meeting, as the representative of Venezuela, the action of Western countries in holding a special meeting of the Human Rights Council regarding Iran considered the continuation of the political activities of these countries in the abuse of the Human Rights Council for political purposes.

The representative of Syria also said in this regard: Syria condemns ignoring the violation of human rights of Iranians by Western countries by imposing sanctions and supporting terrorist activities and disturbances in Iran.

The representative of Cuba, who is against the resolution, also stated: We are against holding this meeting. Holding this meeting is another example of the discriminatory behavior of Western governments in the Human Rights Council.

The representative of Nicaragua also said in this regard: According to the United Nations Charter, there should be no interference in the internal affairs of countries.

The representative of Russia also accused the Western powers of political use of human rights standards and called a resolution to establish a fact-finding committee without the consent of the Islamic Republic "illegitimate".

The representative of China also stated: China does not support the holding of this special meeting.

The point is; Except for a few prominent European countries, the other countries that voted against Iran are to a large extent countries whose mission in the UN structure is to increase the number of legal votes in this type of meeting from the very first day of dividing the borders, while their actual population is very small and life They see themselves in the company of America.

The presence of countries such as Benin, Czech, Finland, Gabon, Gambia, Honduras, Libya, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Marshall Islands, Montenegro, Nepal, Somalia is significant in this framework.

Another important point is the prescriptive version of the designers of this meeting, claiming to support the Iranian nation, while the tip of the arrow of punishment is actually aimed at the Iranian people and emphasizes the escalation of sanctions with sanctions and maximum pressure.

This sanctioning and hostile behavior of the westerners takes place while not long ago Mrs. "Elena Dohan", the special rapporteur of the United Nations regarding the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights, said that sanctions against Iran violate the United Nations Charter, violate humanitarian laws and He considered it a crime against humanity, especially against women and children, and stressed the need for quick cancellation of sanctions and punishment and accountability of the perpetrators.

The final point, however; The competence of the claimants of this meeting is that they themselves are in the first row of human rights violators.

The silence of this council against the crimes that occurred in Yemen, Palestine, Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, or the critical situation of human rights in Western countries, including the generation of indigenous children in Canada and America, or the contemporary cooperation of Germany in committing chemical crimes against the Kurdish people, this It has created a serious challenge that do they have the authority to comment on human rights?
