The Washington Post reveals an obstacle to Washington-Riyadh relations

Although Joe Biden, like Donald Trump, seeks to maintain strategic ties with Saudi Arabia, one obstacle is the case of the sons of a senior Saudi intelligence official imprisoned by Bin Salman.

NOURNEWS - The Washington Post has published a report on one of the obstacles to the resumption of US relations with the Saudi regime.

The report states:

Although Joe Biden, like Donald Trump, seeks to maintain strategic ties with Saudi Arabia, one obstacle is the case of the sons of a senior Saudi intelligence official imprisoned by Bin Salman.
This is because bin Salman is trying to force Saad bin Khalid Al Jabry, a former Saudi intelligence official, to return to the country from Toronto, where he is in exile.
Al-Jabry's eldest son, Khalid, described the move as a political hostage-taking.
Now that a new government is in place in Washington, Khalid has argued in a letter to the Washington Post that ensuring the release of his siblings will be the most accurate US test of his ability to influence and change the Saudi Crown Prince.
Observers believe that one of the reasons US officials are concerned about the case is that Saad Al Jabry was a key CIA partner in counterterrorism efforts against al-Qaeda.
Now, just like the Trump administration, the Biden administration wants to maintain a strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia but there is no doubt that any reassessment raises widespread concerns on the part of both parties in Washington about human rights abuses in Riyadh.
Thus, the fake case filed by the Saudi Crown Prince against Al Jabry's sons is a good place to start a reassessment of Washington-Riyadh relations.
