NOURNEWS - Ali Ghiasian, a spokesman for the Shipping Company of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said in an exclusive interview with Nornews: A part of the ship's hull was damaged after an explosive device hit the Iranian container ship Shahrekord on Wednesday, March 11, in international waters in the Mediterranean Sea.
He said: "This vessel, which belongs to the Container Transportation of Iran's shipping company, was on its way from Iran to Europe."
Ghiasi noted: "According to the report received, after the explosive object hit the hull of the ship, a small fire occurred at the site of the explosion, which was immediately contained by the timely efforts of the commander and crew of the ship."
He added: "Fortunately, none of the crew of the Iranian commercial vessel was harmed in this terrorist attack."
Ghiasi said: the Iranian ship Shahrekord will continue its route after examining the extent of the damage and repairing the damage.
A spokesman for the Islamic Republic Shipping Company, referring to the measures taken to identify the source of the attack on the Iranian merchant ship, said: "Such terrorist acts, such as piracy, are against international law on commercial shipping security and legal action to identify the perpetrators." It will be done through relevant international institutions.
