NOURNEWS - Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi described the Omani government's approach towards international developments as balanced, but meantime stressed the need for continued consultations between the two countries.
Araqchi, in a meeting with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al Busaidi on Monday, praised Oman’s balanced role in the face of regional and international issues, reiterating that consultations between Tehran and Muscat should continue in light of the scheduled 7th Iran-Oman joint strategic consultative committee meeting in Muscat later in the day.
He pointed to Oman’s important status in Iran's foreign policy.
Hamood Al Busaidi, for his part, pointed to the capacities in both sides and called for expansion of economic ties.
The Omani minister expressed hope for reaching more understanding among regional states.
Araqhchi arrived in Muscat on Monday to participate at the 7th round of Iran-Oman joint strategic consultative committee meeting.
In a relevant development in November, high-ranking Iranian and Omani officials in a meeting in Muscat discussed ways to further develop the two countries' relations and cooperation, especially the legislative bodies.
The meeting was held between Iranian Ambassador to Oman Ali Najafi and Chairman of Consultative Assembly of Oman Khalid Al Maawali.
In the meeting, the two officials underlined the importance of interactions between parliamentary friendship groups and specialized commissions in the two countries' parliaments.
Najafi met and held a talk with Al Maawali on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Oman's National Day.
He congratulated the Speaker of the Parliament on Oman National Day, calling for boosting parliamentary cooperation between the two states.
Both sides reviewed the latest developments concerning the friendship groups and stressed the need to further forge cooperation between the two countries' parliaments and the importance of consultations between lawmakers of the Iranian and Oman parliaments.
