NOURNEWS - EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell has called for a more robust strategy towards China, amid signs that Asia is replacing the United States as the center of global power, Euronews reported.
"China's prosperity is admirable and respectable, but at the same time there are many questions and concerns," he stated.
Borel warned of the end of the US-Led World Order and entering the Asian era, as he pointed out: “Analysts have long talked about the end of an American-led system and the arrival of an Asian century … This is now happening in front of our eyes."
According to the head of the European Union's diplomatic service, if the 21st century turns into an Asian century, Corona's pervasive disease can be cited as a turning point in the process.
He added: "This is the first major crisis in recent decades that is not controlled by the United States. Washington may not care, but we're seeing more competition everywhere we look. Especially between the United States and China."
He continued: "European Union is feeling a ‘growing’ pressure to choose sides, and should follow our own interests and values and avoid being instrumentalized by one or the other."
The EU's foreign policy chief also argued that relations with China should be based on trust, transparency and reciprocity. However, this has not always been the case, and luck is only with Europe if it interacts with China within the framework of collective order.
According to him, Europe needs a more robust strategy towards China, which requires more relations and cooperation with other Asian democracies. He cited cooperation with India, Japan and South Korea as examples.
